Neat! When did fw fisherman start using downriggers to troll for bass?

I really wasn't expecting to hook a LMB because I had larger sized Rainbow trout in mind
...but I'll take it
We were in a side console tin rental boat with no electronics (I'm not used to that)
Check out the downrigger set-up that I threw together just prior to heading up there
I learned this from an old timer that would use something similar to troll for Mako and Thresher sharks
I just put a mark on the cord every 10ft. out to 30ft. which I feel is the maximum amount of line I care to handle
Set the fishing line in the release clip, lower the ball to the desired depth, wrap the cord around a rear cleat and you're trolling at a controlled depth

Because:
I'm just an ordinary average guy
My friends are all boring
And so am I
We're just ordinary average guys
We all live ordinary average lives
With average kids
And average wives
We all go bowling at the bowling lanes
Drink a few beers
Bowl a few frames
We're just ordinary average guys
Ordinary average guys
And every Saturday we work in the yard
Pick up the dog do
Hope that it's hard (woof woof)
Take out the garbage and clean out the garage
My friend's got a Chrysler
I've got a Dodge
We're just ordinary average guys
Ordinary average guys
Ordinary average guy
Ordinary average guy
Ordinary average guy
Ordinary average average guys
The Cover of Rolling Stone lyrics:
Well, we're big rock singers
We've got golden fingers
And we're loved everywhere we go (that sounds like us)
We sing about beauty and we sing about truth
For ten-thousand dollars a show (right)
We take all kinds of pills that give us all kind of thrills
But the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll get ya when you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone
(Rolling Stone) Wanna see my picture on the cover
(Stone)Wanna buy five copies for my mother (yeah)
(Stone)Wanna see my smilin' face
On the cover of the Rolling Stone (that's a very, very, good idea)
I got a freaky ole lady name a cocaine Katy
Who embroideries on my jeans
I got my poor old grey haired daddy
Drivin' my limosine
Now, it's all designed to blow our minds
But our minds won't really be blown
Like the blow that'll get ya when you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone
(Rolling Stone) Wanna see our pictures on the cover
(Stone) Wanna buy five copies for our mothers (yeah)
(Stone) Wanna see my smilin' face
On the cover of the Rolling Stone
(Hey, I know how, rock and roll!!)
[Freaky Guitar Break]
(Ah, that's beautiful)
We got a lot of little teenage blue-eyed groupies
Who do anything we say
We got a genuine Indian Guru
Who's teaching us a better way
We got all the friends that money can buy
So we never have to be alone
And we keep getting richer but we can't get our picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone
(Rolling Stone) Wanna see my picture on the cover
(Stone) Wanna buy five copies for my mother (I want one!)
(Stone) Wanna see my smilin' face
On the cover of the Rolling Stone
On the cover of the Rolling Stone
(Man, I don't know why we ain't on the cover, Baby)
(We're beautiful people)
(I ain't kiddin', why, we would make a beautiful cover
(Fresh shot, right up front, man)
(I can see it now, we'll be up on the front)
(Smilin', man ...... ahh, beautiful!)

Re: Just as good as getting on the cover of the Rolling Ston
Great Photo. So many times you see people take really crappy pictures. So I can see why they liked it.
Good pose, natural surroundings, Nice fish, "just after the action". It has it all, Scott.
We've always called that poor man's down-rigger. Depending on trolling speed, either a ball or a big planer is attached to the line.
