Okay, before Welder goes picture posting crazy after he gets the HD containing all of them.
I'm going to post them as they occurred
These pictures will be after we leave the fuel dock as seen in the video part 1
Right after leaving the marina, we attempted to jig up, without success, some fresh Herring for bait
There was a group of fisherpersons working a school off the rocks
We gave that a try then headed out to our first spots
Mojomizer (Mark) made sandwiches for everyone and we passed a care package off the propnut's boat
Propnut (Doug), along with Welder (Les), and Mr. Z (Zack) broke away to try his spot and we proceeded to an area to set out our shrimp pots
Baited our canisters with shrimp pellets, we set up two strings of pots, 3 + 2 for a total of 5 in 400- 500ft. deep water and mark them with a buoy
After setting out the pots, we headed to our first fishing spot.
We found a promising looking ledge and dropped anchor.
Spoiled one (Pete) said that he was told that you might need to wait an hour with baits soaking for the fish to pick up on the scent.
An hr. and 10 minutes later, Pete boats our first Halibut
5 minutes later, I get one a little bigger. 5 minutes later, Mojo gets one a little smaller.
The bite died after that as it seemed that the current started changing directions.
We were feeling pretty good about our success.
Little did we know, Doug and Les were battling one very nice barndoor which they didn't tell us how nice of a fish it was!
We pulled anchor and met them back where we set the shrimp pots at.
They hoisted their flatty up and with the tail touching the ground…
3rd. times a charm (3 shots)
You will be able to see in the next video, the hoisting and our reaction
They had already pulled their pots and got like 3 shrimp?
We checked ours and got a couple of gallons worth?
We reset the pots for the night to check on them in the morning
Here's something to take notes about:
The shrimp like areas where the glaciers enter the water.
Another bonus with these areas, there's floating ice around.
No need to buy ice. Just scoop it up!
We met Jerry on the water. One of the members on the Alaskan fishing forums
He ended up side tying to us for the night and had some adult beverages with us
We made a short run to Granite Bay to spend the night
We got a better look at Doug's fish, headed the shrimp and cleaned the fish
Grilled shrimp and Halibut along with some seared tuna that came from Costco was our dinner at about midnight!
Well, the picture taking ended about here.
So until day 2…
