Jim, I replaced the Vp44 injector pump in my 98.5 a while back
It cost me around $1200 and a full day of my labor
There are a few extra tools that you need to get the job done:
Wobble extensions for sockets:

I used this set but thrashed them after the job was done(lifetime warranty!) but you may want to get a better quality set
Here are some good instructions on how to do the replacement:

This is where I purchased the rebuilt replacement. Very happy with the customer service:

I also relocated the lift pump to the frame rail in front of the fuel tank and used the stock lift pump.
This location turns it into a "pusher" pump instead of a lift pump. I actually got 3 more lbs. of pressure by moving it there
This is what I'm talking about:

As far as the pressure gauge, a must have item according to the internet forums
I went with a mechanical pressure gauge which I got from here for cheap:

One of the advantages of a pressure gauge is that it will alert you if the fuel filter needs replacement or the the transfer pump is starting to go out.
I believe the warning light set-up turns on if the pressure drops below 5lbs.
This is where I tapped in for the pressure line
Let me know if you have anymore questions if you want to take this on yourself
