Voltage Gauge????
I am installing a voltage gauge in my boat. Any suggstions on brands & where to get one??? I saw a nice LED one in the "JEGS" magazine. Does it have to be "Marine Type" gauge?? My current gauges fog up a bit once in a while, not sure who makes them, they came with the boat. I don't really want to get into a whole new set of gauges if I can help it, just want to add a voltage gauge. Boat currently does no have one.

Re: Voltage Gauge????
I've found that most digital non-marine volt meters can't cope with the spikes and transients common to boat systems. When I rigged my boat I wanted to use these:

I fried the first two I installed then re-read the instructions where they explained for marine use a buffer circuit needed to be incorporated
So did that and now working great

Re: Voltage Gauge????
Thanks Chaps. That will work just great And where would one obtain a buffer circuit??? I have heard of them before but can't remember from where. My electric trolling motor has what is called a "Transiant voltage suppressor". Looks like a resistor. From what I was told it helps with sudden voltage spikes.

Re: Voltage Gauge????
They have a schematic on the install sheet, go to that link above and click on the pdf file for "datasheet". It takes a resistor and a couple of diodes which I put together on a circuit bread board, in fact I did 3 of them (on one board) because I wanted a gauge for each of my 3 batteries.

Re: Voltage Gauge????
Thanks again Chaps. The RadioShack down the street from work carries all that stuff & it is short $$ last time I checked.
