I just fished that same area last week . . . good weather and calm seas the whole time although the tide rip right at the southern tip of the island was significant which is where the sinking took place. Another contributing factor may have been that they were in a small landing craft, not necessarily what you want to be running through big water in IMO and having spent time on a couple of these I've seen the front ramps drop due to poor lashings and/or broken winch straps which in a lump will fill the boat with water in a heartbeat. A shame all around for sure, R.I.P. fellow fishermen.
