Football Season Mixed Bag

Well, its that time of the year that I hate :!: Decisions decisions decisions  Alarm sounds 4:00 am Saturday truck is loaded with decoys, waders, and all our camo gear. Quick coffee and out the door we go. It's youth waterfowl day in Mass. We have a short window before the rain moves in. While setting the decoys at 5:45am I decided it would be a great morning for a swim :banghead: back to the truck and changed into some warm dry clothes, then back in the blind. My son has been doing a great job shooting and just after legal shooting light the first flock of woodies moved in :gunner2: hammered a nice drake on its descend to the decoys. Couple more flocks flew in out of shooting range. Kept working and calling and had a lonely mallard come over the tree tops and head straight into the spread :gunner2: that was all she wrote. Rain moved in heavy so we packed up and headed home to prepare for our next adventure

Sunday AM out the door. Plan is to poke our nose outside the break water in search of anything  We shoot through the east gap and there are birds working in ever direction we look. Fish are exploding on the surface crashing small bait. Tie some small silver onto our 30lb fluorocarbon leader and let the fun begin. Within minutes I'm tight with a fast running heavyweight Mushie (false albacore) about a 5 minute battle with strong runoff's and he's in the net, quick picture then released. The action was lock-n-load for the next 2 1/2 hrs. The "fat alberts" we pushing the bait against the breakwater in a aggressive feeding pattern with schools of fish popping up as close as 5 feet from the boat. Pulled the plug around 1pm and left them biting. Great morning of run-n-gun fishing
