FINISHED MY COCKPIT WITH HERCULINER
Well my weekend got cut short by some engine problems, so, Cody and I got to work on finishing the interior of the cockpit with Herculiner. Here are the results:
Overview of transom area (Sorry I didn't wash the Plast-Teak deck before taking the picture but the Herculiner wasn't dry enough yet to wash):
Detailed view of Port side of transom area:
Detailed view of the Starboard side of transom:
Hey, what's this doing here???
View from Starboard side looking towards bow:
View from Port side looking forward:
The tramport vehicle to and from XIAO MU JI:
Here is a new side shot of XIAO MU JI at rest, she's just waiting to go fishing!
Give me a score on how you think the Herculiner looks in the cockpit now, please! Marty

Merlin,
No priming, the kit comes with a brilo scourring type pad. If you have anything that looks like it needs orbital sanding I would hit that 1st but if not, then you just use the pads and scuff everything up. Afterwards, you wipe it down with acetone, then you tape off the edges and things you don't want to get it on.
When I did the cabin wall I did the inner corners last, but the cockpit I did the inner corners 1st with the brush the kit is supplied with. I think looking back that inner corners should be done after you have rolled the surfaces 1st.
Two coats does a pretty good job, I think. Marty

Yes, Those are my toe rails. We use them to keep your balance in big seas and when fighting big fish in the harness. Slip your feet under and your good to go.spoiled one wrote:Marty, what are those rails along the floor on both the port and starboard sides? Places to hook your feet when reeling down on a big tuna?

Like I said, it looks great. I'm doing the same thing only I ran into some, shall we say, challenges. Did some research before I bought the stuff and everyone said this is the Doo-doo - durabak - basically, it's the same stuff. Did some testing when got into it and can't seem to get it to stick. Followed instructions carefully - scuffed the Doo-doo out of the aluminum, cleaned it thoroughly, cleaned again with xylene, let dry and apply. Damn it, it peeled right off.
I have some etching primer now so I'm trying that. Wish me luck.
As soon as the bedliner is in I am re-installing everything.

That is a great idea! I may have to retrofit "Patience" with a pair.Ironwoodtuna wrote:Yes, Those are my toe rails. The Herculiner is from J.C.Whitney and it is a roll-on product.
You gotta make the toe rails, I can't beleive how great and how much safer and more comfortable fishing is in rough seas is with them. Make sure you make them just big enought to get your cold water boots under them.

I AGREE ON THE COLOR COMMENT
Sorry, but it only comes in gray, black and red. Maybe the custom spray on liners could be gotten in lighter gray.
But, I don't trailer the beast, I would have to take the tower off, too tall to clear bridges and power lines. I fold it down to trailer her 1-block from the boat ramp to the marina twice a year.

Gotch'a. :)
Ah' is that trailer high enough off the ground?
Geeze it has the dang boat 3ft in the air.
It would make pressure washing easy. HeHe

It is a hydrolic and it is fully up for cleaning the bottom, I would never make it on the trailer, let alone under the power lines like you see it. good observation!warthog5 wrote:Sorry, but it only comes in gray, black and red. Maybe the custom spray on liners could be gotten in lighter gray.
