Rock Salt 34'- Splash!!
Splashed the hull yesterday to make sure that it floated on its lines and do some preliminary (light) testing.
Great day - more pics to come! (Note: boat is unfinished but we wanted to make sure we had no serious issues before we wrap up the boat!)

COOL!
Congrats Jay,
Looks sweet.
Have you thought of making a flat triangle area at the rear of the hull maybe 5 feet forward of the transom like Fountain does on their high-speed to give lift instead of just having the vee at the transom. It is said to give the hull better high-speed, lift and stability at speed.
What are the two tube things on the transom??? Also, what is your thoughts on a flat transom rather than a extended bracket that is raised
slightly from the bottom hull to bring clean water to the engines?
What color are you painting the beast???
Marty

I like them, too. If I was buying one of our boats I would bead blast the whole thing, acid wash and nyalic. Use the stick-on non-skid the Coasties and SafeBoat uses and be done. Simple, no maintenance. We'll offer this level of finish as well for those like us that want/need simplicity.Chaps wrote:. . . thought you'd rise to that bait 8) . . . but its true ain't it? There will be those that want a yacht quality finish as well - we'll do what the customer wants...

That "delta pad" that you see on some high speed boats like the Fountains is an intriguing idea that I just don't know enough about yet and didn't want to experiment with at this early stage. Same goes for the second question you asked about the higher bottom just in front of the engines. Both may come up down the line. This bottom is an extremely known quantity without too much guess work.
The two tubes at the transom are water pick-ups for the livewells.
The interior will be painted off-white while the sides will be bead blasted and nyalic'ed. Or maybe Ferrarri red...or maybe canary yellow...!!

I MENT
Jay,
I meant the Armstrong bracket style for the exgine extention bracket. I don't know if you saw the Ship Shape TV show when Robby Fountain told and showed all about his missles, the bottom flat area seems to really make great since. Try to catch the episode. Clear over beaded is cool! Blue raceing stripe sounds nice!mty

Re: I MENT
I must have written badly but I did understand what you were saying. I've studied just about every possible bottom configuration and think that there are some great deas out there. Designers and architects don't always agree on the benefits and efficacy and each change from a "standard" bottom as each alteration has its own downside and bugaboos.Ironwoodtuna wrote:Jay,

In introducing an alloy boat to another un-alloy market segment (large, deep-vee CC's) I think it important that we arrive with a performance and ride that are normal, easy and predictable. If we had any of the problems that can be found with more radical bottoms I swear to god that everyone would blame it on the hull material rather than a design issue...
Having said that I'm not at all averse to attempting some of those ideas later on as they are extremely interesting!
As far as color is concerned - what about a matte black hull like the extrerior of a stealth fighter.
I think that Marty heading out to the tails in a stealth black RS34 with a tower station would be impressive!

We've been waiting for this day. Jay, I think 55 knots is fast enough
KISS - for my liking.
Please, no stick on tread tape, though....maybe no-teleflex steering???
Wrap up...? Yeah, slick the sides good and get "Hooters" or "Playboy" to put a giant advertisment on the side via a wrap and a bunch of hot cuban babes wearing just two bandaids and a cork in her and you'll be the talk of the big Miami show come February.
Maybe....? I think ya need 5 engines
to really impress them these days.
- that's one sweet ride, Jay. Thanks for the updates.

Glad you like the boat, Dave. Not sure what the wife would think of the cuban babes and Hooters but I'll try!JETTYWOLF wrote:We've been waiting for this day. Jay, I think 55 knots is fast enough
