Displacement Hull Alloy

A few questions for the Alloy experts..

Any aluminum boat manufacturers making a displacement hull for offshore use?

Think it'd be possible to have a 34-36' displacement hull welded up, that could pack 8-10k of slushed salmon? Diesel engine, top speed of around 9 knots? Probably want around 12' of beam, and 5' draft. Could such a boat exist, and what would a ball park estimate of a bare hull and cabin be?

Wanting to put together a very low maintenance salmon troller that would be offshore capable, has a good fish carrying capacity, and I want to look at my alloy option. (considering what I've seen on the used market)

Kelper, of course there are quite a few hulls that would work fine, Rosema http://www.rozemaboatworks.com/ comes to mind, Kvichak (quee-jack) may still offer commercial fishing welded aluminum hulls? http://www.kvichak.com/ ; Leeshore http://www.leeshoreboats.com/ would probably offer a custom build? Northwind may still work in commercial fishing boats http://www.northwindmarine.com/ I'm not sure but they did at one time?

Many of these builders may have moved on to different types of hulls from the displacement fishing hull but at one time they all offered this type of boat.

But there are lots of builders of commercial boats of the class you're discussing that would be happy to hear from you! I'd wager the Puget Sound AAB members would have a list as long as your arm!

For a ballpark attached is a recent aluminum partial delivered. 15' wide, 15k-20k lbs holding. Probably looking around $170k for all the aluminum for something in the 36' range.

Here's a link to exactly that design. I just got the plans redrawn for this boat in a 31' version, it'll pack around 10K lbs total. Please let the designer know Chuck sent ya....

I don't think you'll find any stock full displacement hulls being offered. Fishermen have been chasing speed for the past 20-30 years, building wider and flatter bottomed boats with monster engines aimed at trap or net fishermen. The idea of a new troller is almost unknown. I think the last bunch of new trollers built on this coast were NON ALLOY boats designed by Ed Monk and built in the mid-late 1970's.

12' wide is beamy for a 36', I was recently writing about some excellent sea boats (Remmem trollers)that are 42' by 12'. But I understand you need the hold volume and it could be done.
