Bevan,
Again...most impressive work and design. You are developing a North American fan base!!!

Can you tell me a bit about the finish? Is the aluminum polished and then a sprayed on finish?

Finish

Post by amfboats »

Hi Dave thanks for the compliments, I am starting to feel like a spammer with all my photo's but I keep thinking of another boat I should show. we build quite a diverse range of models. I figure that most on here are keen to see some different boats even if they dont always suit your style of boating.

The finish on these Pro Sport Models is an acid wash with Nyalic Clear coat. We try to handle the plate as though it is glass while building the boat so we dont have to do much polishing. Where we do grind/ router or polish we mask off the area and we work our way down through the grit so that you can barely see where we have polished. For example the side plates, side decks and transom are mostly untouched, but around the rear bollard some polishing is done, but if you look at the third photo from the bottom, you wont notice where the polishing starts and stops. You can see the weld penetration.

This acid wash finish is just something we have always liked the look of and have done since the late 80's. Since the arrival of Nyalic we have been able to keep teh acid wash from oxidising and going black. i have learnt on here that Sharkhide is a product used a lot which I plan to look further into.

Here is a boat being worked on today.

I just recieved a couple of photos from one of my customers showing me the name he has put on his boat. I thought it looked pretty good, good use of our colour in the lure. I wonder if an AMF Lure would catch plenty of fish?

Hi All!

Capt Dave - This model rigged and ready to go cost around $120-140k NZ dollars Plus shipping to Florida

I have just been to the top of the South Island delivering this boat to a client. Another happy customer!

Out of interest which of our decals do you prefer the best this boat with the red stripe chequers or the boats above with the red black and blue stripes?

This is Picton In the Queen Charlott Sounds

Hi All,

I handed this AMF 660 Hardtop Cabin over on Friday. the client requested we paint the wheel house. So this is how she came up. Pretty practical paint job as all the work areas are still Acid wash/nyalic finish. The painter next door to our boat building yard done the paint job for us and He has kept his paint uased and processes a trade secret so sorry I have no info to share. but what you are looking at here is a bog and filler free boat, pure paint on top of pure alloy.

How do you like the boat name?

LOVE that Hardtop in Black. If I was a New Zealander, I'd have to have me one!
